History

Margaux and Matthew O’Malley, a husband and wife team, founded GJD in 2000. In 2006, the GJD team expanded to include Amanda Schick and Elizabeth Keary, and Jeannette Modic joined us in 2007.

Grand Junction Design's name has a two-fold origin. Not only is it meant to represent the junction between good ideas and good design, but it is also named after a town in Colorado that is close to our hearts.

The O'Malley family often visited Matthew's grandparents' farm in Grand Junction, Colorado, and over the years Matthew developed an impressive repertoire of animal noises. Margaux's personal favorite is "the noise that a turkey makes when it's chasing you," which is very similar to "the noise that a turkey makes when you're chasing it." Running through the property was a magnificent river (ditch) which was the site of countless boat races and corn-cob fights. The farm itself seemed to inspire a good deal of art, including Grandma and Grandpa Kettler's version of "American Gothic," several of Aunt Cordy's wonderful sketches, and a story by cousin Rudy.

Margaux, Matthew's wife, visited Grand Junction once when she was eight years old, but she doesn't remember much. Matthew plans to take her back there soon.
