Since late January, fair trade banana farmers in Ecuador have been devastated by heavy flooding. Lives, homes, roads and crops have been lost.

GJD worked together with Oké USA, a cooperative fair trade fruit importer whose member farmers were particularly hard-hit by the floods, to set up a small flood relief donation site. www.buythebobcat.org will help raise $20,000 quickly, so that the farmer co-op can buy a Bobcat compact excavator to help them clear the debris, replant, and take preventive measures to help reduce the risk of a similar catastrophe in the future.

An easy-to-share graphical widget allows supporters to put a "banana button" on their blog or Web site, to show others that they are in solidarity with the farmers. Of course the button links visitors back to www.buythebobcat.org so that they can conveniently make a donation.

And Google Checkout takes care of the payment processing (at no cost to nonprofits through 2009!).
